How the conversion works
Vial mg ÷ water mL = concentration (mcg/mL). Your amount ÷ concentration = mL, ×100 = insulin units. The live syringe shows the mark; the cascade shows the math.
Worked examples for 5 mg and 10 mg vials
These show how an entered amount converts to units at common vial sizes. They are arithmetic, not dosing guidance.
- 5 mg vial + 1 mL BAC water = 5000 mcg/mL. Enter 250 mcg → 250 ÷ 5000 = 0.05 mL → ×100 = 5 units. Enter 500 mcg → 0.10 mL → 10 units.
- 5 mg vial + 2 mL BAC water = 2500 mcg/mL. The same 250 mcg now converts to 0.10 mL → 10 units — more water spreads the amount over a larger, easier-to-read draw.
- 10 mg vial + 1 mL BAC water = 10000 mcg/mL. Enter 250 mcg → 0.025 mL → 2.5 units; enter 500 mcg → 0.05 mL → 5 units.
- 10 mg vial + 2 mL BAC water = 5000 mcg/mL. Enter 250 mcg → 0.05 mL → 5 units — identical to the 5 mg-in-1 mL case, because the concentration matches.
The take-away: units depend on concentration, so the amount of bacteriostatic water you add matters as much as the vial size. Change either in the tool and the unit count updates instantly.
